Getting Started

If you know little about website building setting up your first site can be tricky, and whilst there are endless seminars and courses your can take (usually for a large sum) and many people who would like to charge you for making your site, we’ve come to learn that none of it is really necessary, if you get told some of the core information (but of course there are still a lot of things you can learn from then on). This site is designed to get you making fully functional sites with the least fuss, and all the information here is provided for free! (for more information, go to the About page).
The Basics

Websites use HTML code to instruct the page viewers browser what it should show on the page. Learning HTML can be difficult, and even after you’ve learned the process of making a site is arduous. So, luckily we won’t be using HTML to make our site! instead we think the best way to make your site is to use a content management system (CMS), so you don’t need to know any code to get your site up and running.

Joomla! and WordPress are examples of free, open source CMS programs which we think work brilliantly. (click the links to find out more)

Hosting

hosting is necessary to start making sites, this the server that holds your website under a domain name (or URL, the address where the site can be accessed) that you choose. If you don’t already have hosting this is one thing you will have to buy, we recommend the wealth continuum, they have very cheap hosting that comes with a easy one click install for both Joomla! and WordPress (otherwise to install these programs onto your site you need to allocate them one of your MySQL databases which is a tricky process, and we like to avoid trickiness!) and with their Joomla kit you get everything you need to start your website.
